New Year
in Phu Quoc
and Da Lat

Eleven days, two very different trips. First the sea, coral reefs and fireworks over the bay. Then pine forests at 1,500 meters, coffee you roast yourself, and a cup you shape with your own hands.

New Year by the sea — it makes sense

But after three days on the beach, it gets old. So the second half of the trip is the opposite: mountains, cool air, hands in clay and the smell of roasting coffee.

  • The first half is the celebration. A beach resort in the south of Phu Quoc, a gala dinner overlooking the sea, midnight to electronic music on the beach stage — and the next evening a water show with lasers and fireworks in Sunset Town.
  • The second is about your hands and your taste buds. Da Lat sits at 1,500 meters: 15–20°C, pine trees, morning mist. Here you shape your own cup, put together your own coffee blend and take both home with you.
  • Between them, a recovery day. After the festival night there is not a single early departure in the program. That's by design.
  • The group stays small. Fifteen people at most, no buses full of strangers: the vehicle, the Da Lat guide and the instructors on the water work only for you.

Seven moments this trip is built around

Midnight on the Beach Stage

An open shoreline, two stages, house and electro until dawn. We ring in the New Year right on the sand.

“Kiss of the Sea” Show

A decorated waterfront town, a water show with lasers and fireworks over the bay. An evening with no alarm set for the next morning.

Two Dives at An Thoi

No certification needed: an instructor dives with you. Reefs, a boat, lunch on board.

The Cup You Shaped Yourself

A potter's wheel in a Da Lat studio, painting and glazing. We handle the firing and delivery.

Your Own Coffee Blend

An arabica plantation, cupping, roasting basics — plus a bag of your own blend with your name on it, as a gift.

Canyoning at Datanla

Rappelling down the rocks into the water, natural pools and a forest trail with an instructor. Optional.

UTMB Atmosphere

Da Lat hosts the first Vietnam Highlands Trail by UTMB, and we stop by the festival village.

The Sea

Phu Quoc, five nights. The south of the island, where the water is calm and the main New Year venue is twenty minutes away.

Arrival and Switching Into Vacation Mode

Airport pickup and a private transfer. Check-in at a beach resort in the south of the island, free time by the sea. A welcome cocktail at sunset and an unhurried dinner on the beach.

We keep the first evening light, so you can recover from the flight.

New Year to Electronic Music

Late breakfast, beach and pool, spa or massage. In the evening, a New Year gala dinner overlooking the sea. At night we head to TIDES Festival: an open beach stage and an indoor club room, house and electro until dawn. We ring in midnight right on the shore.

The festival runs nonstop from 5pm on Dec 31 to the morning of Jan 2, and we take in its New Year's night. Entry is free and attending is optional: anyone who stays at the resort rings in the New Year there.

Recovery and the Sunset Town Show

Breakfast until noon, free time by the pool, a recovery brunch. Massage, sauna or spa. Toward evening, sunset at Kiss Bridge and a walk through decorated Sunset Town. The “Kiss of the Sea” water show with lasers and fireworks over the bay, then dinner by the water.

Sunset Town is the island's main evening venue. After the night festival, the first half of the day is completely free, and we head out only for sunset.

A Slow Island Day

Late breakfast, beach and pool, free time. A restorative massage. Toward evening, a walk along the shore, sunset and a seafood dinner.

Two festive evenings in a row, then a day with no departures at all. That's by design.

Diving at the Southern Islands

Out to sea to the reefs of the An Thoi archipelago. Two dives with instructors: gear, boat, lunch on board. Between dives, snorkeling, swimming and sun on the deck. Back at sunset for a farewell dinner on Phu Quoc.

No certification needed. If you're not certified, an instructor dives with you and stays right beside you for the whole dive. If you'd rather not dive, you stay on snorkeling from the same boat, which is included in the price.

The Mountains

Da Lat, five nights. 1,500 meters up, pine forests, coffee farms and 15–20°C instead of the tropics.

Transfer: Phu Quoc to Da Lat

Breakfast and check-out, then a flight. Transfer and check-in at a boutique hotel or villa among the pines. A hot welcome dinner, wine, blankets and an evening by the fireplace or bonfire.

Da Lat is 1,500 meters above sea level, 15–20°C all year. After a tropical island it feels like a different season: warm clothes are a must.

French Da Lat and Pottery

Xuan Huong Lake and the French quarter, the historic railway station and a ride on the retro train to Trai Mat, the mosaic Linh Phuoc Pagoda. Lunch at a local restaurant. A pottery workshop: hand-building or wheel-throwing, your own coffee cup, painting and glazing. An evening market and a food walk.

The cup is fired and delivered to your hotel, so you take it home finished.

The Big Coffee Day

A coffee farm: a walk through the plantation, how arabica is grown, an introduction to picking and processing the cherries, the roasting area. Workshop: identifying aromas and flavors, cupping several varieties, roasting basics, pour-over, traditional phin and egg coffee. Everyone puts together their own blend and gets a bag with their name on it as a gift. Lunch at the farm, a flower or strawberry farm, sunset at a panoramic coffee shop.

The workshop is led by a farmer and a professional roaster, not a tour guide.

Waterfalls and Adventure

Two programs to choose from. Active: canyoning at Datanla Waterfall — rappelling down the rocks, natural pools, a forest trail with an instructor. Relaxed: Pongour Waterfall, a walk among the pines, Tuyen Lam Lake and a scenic countryside lunch. In the evening the whole group meets for a Vietnamese hot pot.

You choose on the spot, depending on the weather and your mood.

At the final dinner you receive your finished ceramic cups and coffee from your own blend.

New Year dates on Phu Quoc sell out two to three months ahead: resorts set a minimum booking length and require the gala dinner. The earlier we lock it in, the better the hotel for the same money.

What people usually ask

Do I need a visa?
Vietnam issues an e-visa to all nationalities, up to 90 days, applied for online. We help with it and check the rules for your passport and dates, since rules change from time to time.
I can't dive. What do I do on January 3?
No problem: no certification is needed. For first-time divers, an instructor goes underwater with you and stays close for the whole dive. And if you'd rather not dive at all, you stay on snorkeling and swimming from the same boat, which is included in the price.
How cold does it get in Da Lat?
Fifteen to twenty degrees Celsius all year, cooler at night. After Phu Quoc it feels like a change of season, so warm clothes are a must: a jacket, a sweater, closed shoes. We'll remind you in a separate message before you fly.
Do we have to go to the festival on New Year's night?
No. Entry is free and attending is optional. The gala dinner takes place before it, and anyone who'd rather spend midnight quietly stays at the resort. On January 1 we head out only at sunset, and January 2 has no early departures in the program — that's by design.
How big will the group be?
Fifteen people at most. No buses full of strangers: the vehicle, the Da Lat guide and the instructors on the water work only for your group.
How do I pay?
A 40% deposit secures your spot and dates, and the balance is paid in Vietnam on arrival. We'll walk you through the payment options when you book. The exchange rate is fixed on the invoice date.

Review from Antony about northern Vietnam: Sapa, Fansipan, Ninh Binh, Hanoi
“Fansipan is top. The town of Sapa itself is magnificent. Ninh Binh is potentially a wonder, it just depends heavily on the weather. Probably only in summer. Visibility was poor there, but it still grabs you. Hanoi is noisy, very. Otherwise northern Vietnam is wonderful.”
