What Works: Under 3
Phu Quoc is the top pick for families with infants and toddlers. Long Beach is calm year-round with resort infrastructure directly behind the sand. Sao Beach is even calmer — sheltered by two capes with minimal waves and shallow, clear water. Vinmec International Hospital is on the island with pediatric care and English-speaking doctors, so you are never far from emergency support.
Da Nang works well too. My Khe Beach has municipal lifeguards on duty from April to September in designated swimming zones. Ba Na Hills is 20 minutes away by cable car and stays at 15–20°C even when Da Nang hits 35°C — a genuine relief when travelling with a toddler. Children under 100 cm enter Ba Na Hills free; the cable car itself has no height restriction.
What to bring: your own car seat. Grab and standard taxis in Vietnam do not provide child restraints by default. A 2025 law mandates them, but enforcement lags. Pre-book from a specialist service or bring a travel car seat.

Ha Giang Loop by motorbike with children under 10. Mountain roads, no safety infrastructure, child passengers must hold on for hours. Jeep tours cover the same scenery and are suitable for all ages.
Hanoi in June–August with children under 7. UV index 13–14 (extreme), heat index 41–54°C — hospitals report hundreds of children admitted daily with heat illness during peak summer. Visit Hanoi in October–November or March–May instead.
Budget Halong Bay day-cruise with babies. No onboard toilet facilities, rocking boat, no cribs, crowded deck. A 2-night private or family cruise with a proper cabin changes the experience entirely.
Phong Nha cave boat tour with toddlers. The boat ride takes 2–4 hours in a confined space with no onboard toilet and difficult terrain on entry and exit. Paradise Cave (Tien Son) has easier access and shorter walking sections.
Long scooter rides without helmets. Vietnam’s road accident rate is high and children’s helmets are often unavailable for hire. Use Grab Car, a private car, or a certified tour vehicle for inter-city transfers.
