Marry from November to March and the south (Phu Quoc) is dry. From April to August pick the central coast (Nha Trang, Da Nang), and in September or October go north to Hanoi and Ha Long Bay. Vietnam has 3 climate zones and only one or two are dry in any month.

I live in Da Nang and have guided trips along the central coast since 2023, and the question I hear most is “where in March, October or that July weekend”. I assume you fly out right after the wedding, so the wedding month is your travel month.

Which Coast Works for Which Wedding Month?

The south (Phu Quoc, Mui Ne) is dry from November to April, the centre (Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hoi An) has its beach season from February to August with Nha Trang at its best from March, and the north (Hanoi, Ha Long Bay) is best in spring and autumn.

Resorts inside a zone differ as well. Mui Ne and Phan Thiet on the mainland are drier than the islands, and a rain shower there often passes in an hour. A regional overview is in our best time to visit Vietnam guide .

What If You Marry from November to March?

Go south. From December to March Phu Quoc has almost no rain, and the centre is in its storm and rain season from October to December, the water is clear and the sky is open. Month-by-month sea and rain figures are in our Phu Quoc weather guide , and the Phu Quoc things-to-do guide covers what to do there as a couple.

Skip Nha Trang for a winter beach week. January often brings rough, grey water there, and its good beach weather starts in March. Couples tend to book it for a December or January date because it looks sunny in summer photos, and then find red flags on the sand and no swimming. Da Nang and Hoi An are cool, around 18-20°C in January: lovely for walking the old town, too chilly for swimming. Tet, the lunar new year, falls in late January or early February, so check the dates before you book.

Is April or May Too Early for the Beach?

No, and these are some of the best months. March and April are the easiest if you want two stops, for example Nha Trang and Phu Quoc, because the south is still dry and the centre is just opening.

In May the south starts to see rain, usually warm and short, while Nha Trang stays dry and sunny through the whole summer. The north is pleasant in spring too, so a city stop in Hanoi fits well.

Should You Pick the Centre for a Summer Wedding?

Yes. From June to August Nha Trang and Da Nang are in beach weather while Phu Quoc is hit by showers and waves. The central coast is also dry when Thailand is getting rain, which is why summer weddings often work better here than on the islands. Between the two, I’d choose Da Nang only if you want Hoi An’s lantern streets within easy reach, and Nha Trang if the honeymoon is mostly about lying on the beach.

Check the sea month by month in our Da Nang weather guide . The north is hot and humid in summer, up to 35°C and above, with tropical downpours, so keep Hanoi to a short city stop.

What Do You Do for a September or October Wedding?

Go north and leave the central beach for later. Rain on the central coast begins in September, and in October and November typhoons and floods hit Da Nang and Hoi An. Phu Quoc is still finishing its rainy season, which runs to October.

September and October are the best months in the north: the rice terraces turn yellow before harvest, the rain stops and the air clears. A route of Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay works well. Of the three, Ha Long Bay depends most on clear air for its views, so give it the best days of the trip instead of squeezing it into a transfer day. If you have a week more, push the beach part to the south in late October or November. A typhoon on the central coast can break prepaid connections, so if your plan has no slack, message me on Telegram and I will suggest a fallback for your date.

What Is the Backup When the Beach Weather Is Wrong?

Change the kind of trip. In the highlands Da Lat stays around 18-25°C almost all year, a mild change from the coast, and we compare it with the island option in our Da Lat guide .

Ha Long cruises get cancelled in storm winds, so ask about free rescheduling or a refund before you pay. With two weeks you can split the nights between a beach and a city.

What Is the Rule, and What Should You Book Early?

The rule is simple: pick the dry zone for your month first, the resort second. Then book flights to Phu Quoc, because direct service runs from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi and fills up around holidays, and any cruise on Ha Long Bay. Check the entry rules for your passport on the official e‑visa portal before you pay for anything.

The calendar above is enough to plan this yourself, and if your dates are flexible you should. It gets harder when the month cannot move: a first-line hotel with no free cancellation if a storm hits, an internal flight between two coasts, a cruise cancelled after the transfers are paid. Then message me on Telegram. Tell me your wedding month and how many days you can spare, and I will suggest a route where the sea matches the date.

Frequently asked questions

How many days do you need for a beach plus north route?

I would plan two weeks. That leaves enough nights for a beach and a city stop without spending most days in transfers.

What if there are red flags on the beach all week?

Red flags mean the sea is too rough for swimming. Swap beach days for city walks and tours, and choose hotels with free cancellation or date changes.

Do I need a visa for a Vietnam honeymoon?

It depends on your passport. Check the official e‑visa portal, evisa.gov.vn, before booking anything non-refundable.

How is Mui Ne different from Phu Quoc?

Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are on the mainland and drier than the islands, so even in the rainy season showers are often short. From December to February it is windy season, great for kitesurfing but not for calm swimming.
