February is the best beach month in southern Vietnam and one of the coldest in the north. Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and Mui Ne are dry with sea at 25-28°C, while Hanoi tops out near 22°C and Sapa drops to 4-8°C at night. Tet 2027 lands on 6 February, and the government has approved the official holiday as 4-10 February.
I live in Da Nang and have run tours across Vietnam since 2023, so every autumn I get the same February questions: where to swim, where to pack a jacket, and what Tet does to a trip. The weather numbers below come from climate tables, and the Tet dates from Vietnamese press reports on the 2027 holiday schedule. If your travel dates are already fixed, a route can be built around them.
Which Beach Is Best in Vietnam in February?
Phu Quoc is the best February beach in Vietnam. It gets about 31°C by day, only 3.7 rainy days in the whole month and sea near 28°C. Nha Trang and Mui Ne come next, both dry with sea at 25-26°C. Vung Tau, close to Ho Chi Minh City, is similar, with sea at 26°C.

Phu Quoc keeps its dry season through February, and Nha Trang is among the driest places on the coast, with about 15 mm of rain. Sources disagree on how many rainy days that means, anywhere from 3 to 12, so I would not plan around a count. Month-by-month detail is in Nha Trang weather by month .
Mui Ne belongs to kitesurfers this month, with the season running from late October. The northeast monsoon blows a steady 20-25 knots from mid-morning, and the kite season peaks from January to March. The same wind raises chop along the shore, and the usual mistake is booking Mui Ne as a calm swimming bay and getting into the water after lunch, when the wind is already up. Early morning is the window for swimmers.
Is Da Nang Worth Visiting in February?
Da Nang and Hoi An work in February for walking, food and day trips, but not for a beach week. Air is about 26°C by day and 20°C at night, the sea sits near 24°C, and the water can be choppy. I keep a light jacket in my bag here through the whole month.

Hue is greyer, with drizzle on about 12 days and a daytime high near 25°C. Quy Nhon, further south, runs warmer and drier than Da Nang, with a high near 28°C and rain on about 7 days. Between Hue and Quy Nhon I pick Quy Nhon for a February stay, because 28°C with 7 rainy days beats 25°C with 12 drizzly ones. The wider central coast picture is in Da Nang weather by month .
How Cold Does Northern Vietnam Get in February?
Northern Vietnam is cold and grey in February. Hanoi reaches about 22°C by day, sees roughly 45 hours of sun in the whole month and gets drizzle on about 12 days. Ha Long Bay is colder still, with air near 20°C by day and 14-15°C at night, and sea around 19-20°C.

Pack real layers for Hanoi, where nights fall to 14-16°C and fog is common. Sea at 20°C is too cold for most people to swim, so Ha Long in February is a scenery trip. See Hanoi weather by month for the full year.
What Does Tet 2027 Do to a February Trip?
Tet 2027 shuts most small restaurants, street stalls, spas and family shops on 6-8 February, and the country returns to normal around 11-12 February. Tet, the Vietnamese lunar New Year, falls on Saturday 6 February, with New Year’s Eve on 5 February. The government has already approved the schedule: a seven-day public holiday, Thursday 4 February to Wednesday 10 February 2027, so the dates are settled, not a forecast.

Hotels with restaurants, international chains and convenience stores such as Circle K and GS25 stay open, some on shorter hours. Tourist districts keep going: Hanoi’s Old Quarter, District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An and the beaches of Da Nang and Nha Trang. Museums, banks, the post office and immigration offices close, and pagodas are at their busiest. Our guide to what closes during Tet was written for the 2026 holiday and still explains how the days work.
How Much Do Flights, Trains and Hotels Jump Around Tet?
Domestic flights ran two to three times the normal fare at Tet 2026, hotels added 30-50% and up to double at beach resorts, and 2027 prices will likely follow that pattern. For 2027, Vietnam Railways opened sales on 5 September 2026 with about 300,000 tickets, priced 4-8% above last year according to press reports.
Peak days sell out weeks ahead. Before Tet 2026, routes such as Vinh were full three weeks before the holiday, and most travelers bought four to six weeks in advance.
This is where Tet trips usually break: the train for 5 February is gone, the beach hotel costs 30-50% more, and the first three days bring closed restaurants and shut tour desks. You can handle this yourself by booking transport the day sales open and choosing a hotel with its own kitchen. If you would rather not watch the dates, I build the route so the closed days fall at a seaside hotel with a working restaurant and the long transfers stay outside 4-10 February. Send me your dates on Telegram and I will tell you what is realistic.
How Do You Book a Tet Trip Step by Step?
Book transport first and hotels second, because trains and flights sell out before rooms do. The rail peak for Tet 2027 runs from 23 January to 25 February, with 57 trains and more than 800 carriages in service, so any trip touching those weeks needs tickets early. Work through the steps in this order.
- Decide whether you want to be in Vietnam on 6-8 February, when most local restaurants are closed, or arrive after 11 February.
- Buy trains and domestic flights as soon as your dates are fixed. Departures peak around 3-5 February and returns around 9-12 February, so travel outside those days if you can.
- Book the beach hotel one to two months ahead.
- Choose a hotel with its own restaurant.
- Withdraw cash before 4 February, since banks close for the whole holiday.
Which Place Should You Pick for February?
Pick Phu Quoc first for swimming, then Nha Trang, or Mui Ne if you want wind sports. For cities and food, Da Nang and Hoi An work in February, and Ho Chi Minh City is at its driest, with 8 mm of rain and about one rainy day. Hanoi and Ha Long suit travelers who want cool air. Book everything that touches 4-10 February first. The table puts twelve places side by side.
A dash in the table means I found no reliable figure. If you want a beach and two cities in one trip, the multi-day routes across Vietnam cover that.
| Place | Day, °C | Night, °C | Sea, °C | Rain, mm |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phu Quoc | 31 | 24 | 28 | 27 |
| Nha Trang | 27-28 | 21-22 | 25 | 15 |
| Mui Ne | 28-29 | 22 | 25-26 | - |
| Vung Tau | 29 | 23 | 26 | - |
| Con Dao | 29 | 24 | 25 | - |
| Ho Chi Minh City | 33 | 23 | - | 8 |
| Da Lat | 24 | 12-14 | - | 21 |
| Quy Nhon | 28 | 22 | - | 28 |
| Da Nang | 26 | 20 | 23-24 | 24 |
| Hue | 25 | 18 | 23-24 | 63 |
| Hanoi | 22 | 14-16 | - | 20 |
| Ha Long | 20 | 14-15 | 19-20 | - |
Everything here can be booked on your own: trains on the Vietnam Railways site, flights with the airlines, and a beach hotel with a kitchen. If you would rather not chase sold-out tickets and closed restaurants during Tet, message me on Telegram with your travel dates and I will suggest a route that works around the holiday.
Methodology: Where These Numbers Come From
Air and rainfall figures come from the climate tables of Vietnam’s Institute of Building Science and Technology as published on Wikipedia, plus weather2travel.com and vietnamtourism.com. Sea temperatures are satellite averages for February 2024-2026 from weather-stats.com , which shift by 1-2°C between years, so treat them as ranges. Sapa has no single meteorological table, so its figures are guide ranges. Tet dates and the holiday schedule come from Tuoi Tre, VietnamPlus and Bao Quoc Te, and rail data from Bao Van Hoa and VOV. I collected everything on 13 October 2026.
