From Nha Trang, the two main routes are north toward Danang and Hoi An, or south to Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc. Budget 3–4 days for Nha Trang itself — most travelers over-allocate a full week and end up bored by day five.

How many days should you actually spend in Nha Trang?

Three to four days covers everything Nha Trang has to offer, and my fuller rundown of what to see in and around Nha Trang goes deeper on each stop. Day one: the beach at Tran Phu, the Cham Towers (Po Nagar), and the Long Son Pagoda. Day two: a snorkeling island tour to Hon Mun or Hon Tam (tours run from $20–35 per person, departures at 8 AM from Cau Da port). Day three: VinWonders theme park if you have kids, or a half-day mud bath at Thap Ba Hot Springs. Day four is your buffer — use it or head to Dalat.

How many days should you actually spend in Nha Trang?
Three or four days covers everything Nha Trang offers before you move on

Russian citizens don’t need a visa for stays up to 45 days, so there’s no urgency to rush through the country.

Is a day trip to Dalat worth it from Nha Trang?

Yes — Dalat is 135 km from Nha Trang, about 3 hours by direct bus (150,000–200,000 VND, roughly $6–8). The elevation sits at 1,500 meters, which means temperatures of 18–22°C even in summer, a contrast you’ll feel the moment you step off the bus.

Is a day trip to Dalat worth it from Nha Trang?
Cool Dalat slots into a Vietnam itinerary as an add-on, not a detour

Worth seeing: Crazy House (Hang Nga Guesthouse), Datanla Waterfalls with the alpine coaster, Linh Phuoc Pagoda, and the coffee farms along the QL 20 highway. A single day is tight but doable; an overnight stay is better. Dalat fits naturally between Nha Trang and your next destination — it’s not a detour so much as an add-on.

The southern route: Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc

A flight from Nha Trang (Cam Ranh Airport, CXR) to Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat, SGN) takes about 1 hour. VietJetAir tickets start from 500,000–800,000 VND ($20–32) booked 2–3 weeks ahead; the bus takes 8–9 hours and costs from 200,000 VND if you’re not in a rush.

The southern route: Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc
The southern route to Phu Quoc suits November to April in 2026

Spend 2–3 days in Ho Chi Minh City: the Cu Chi Tunnels (70 km northwest, half-day tour from $15), the Mekong Delta (full-day tour from $25), Bui Vien Street in the evening. Then fly to Phu Quoc (40–60 minutes, from 400,000 VND). Four to five days on the island is enough: west-coast beaches like Ong Lang and Sao Beach, a snorkeling tour to the southern islands, and the An Thoi cable car — at 7.9 km, the longest sea cable car in the world.

This southern loop works best from November to April, when Phu Quoc is in its dry season and the sea is calm.

The northern route: Danang, Hoi An, and Hue

The train from Nha Trang to Danang takes 10–12 hours; a soft sleeper costs from 400,000 VND ($16) and departs in the evening, arriving in the morning. VietJetAir flies the route in 1 hour from 600,000 VND.

The northern route: Danang, Hoi An, and Hue
The northern leg of this Vietnam itinerary reaches Danang, Hoi An and Hue

Danang works as a base for 4–5 days. Spend one full day at Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge (tickets 750,000–850,000 VND, entrance is the main cost). Hoi An is 30 km south — 30 minutes by Grab — and deserves at least one overnight stay: the Ancient Town lights up with lanterns after dark, and the experience is completely different from a daytime visit. Hue is 100 km north of Danang (2.5 hours by car), with the Imperial Citadel, royal tombs, and dragon boat dinners on the Perfume River worth half a day each.

March through August is the dry season in central Vietnam and the best time for this route.

A 10-day Vietnam itinerary starting from Nha Trang

This is the route I recommend to friends flying into Cam Ranh Airport with 10–12 days and a curiosity beyond the beach:

  • Days 1–3: Nha Trang — beach, islands, Tran Phu promenade
  • Day 4: Dalat day trip (or overnight)
  • Day 5: flight Nha Trang → Danang (1 hour, from 600,000 VND)
  • Days 6–7: Danang — Ba Na Hills, Son Tra Peninsula, bridge-watching at sunset
  • Day 8: Hoi An (overnight stay)
  • Day 9: Hue (day + evening on the river)
  • Day 10: back to Danang, flight home

Book domestic flights on 12go.asia or directly with VietJetAir. Grab operates in all cities on this route — no need to negotiate with taxi drivers. Budget roughly $50–80 per day for mid-range travel (accommodation, food, transport, one paid attraction). If you’ve got extra time, stretching this into a two-week Vietnam route lets you fold in Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc without rushing.
