Hotel choice sets the cost of a two-week Vietnam honeymoon more than anything else. For two people on the ground I plan between about $1,500 and about $9,000, before the flights to Vietnam. Dates and hotel tier move that total so much that one specific route is a better thing to price than any average.

How much does a two-week Vietnam honeymoon cost for two?

For 14 nights and two people, I plan about $1,500 on a lean budget, about $3,500 with boutique hotels and a decent cruise cabin, and about $9,000 with resorts, a luxury cruise and private guides. These are my planning estimates for 2026, built from typical room rates and fares rather than quotes, and they exclude international flights and travel insurance.

Every figure assumes one route: Hanoi for 3 nights, an overnight Ha Long Bay cruise, Hoi An and Da Nang for 5 nights and Phu Quoc for 5 nights, with three domestic flights. The 10 or 14 day honeymoon itinerary lays that route out day by day.

For scale, one couple who logged every expense on a month-long backpacking trip some years ago reported about $66 a day for two, with rooms near $12 a night. A honeymoon rarely sits on that floor, because rooms and activities take most of the money.

What does a hotel night cost on a honeymoon?

Budget about $35 a night for a clean private room with breakfast, about $90 for a boutique hotel with a pool, and about $250 on average for resort villas, for two people sharing. Over 14 nights that is $490, $1,260 and $3,500, the biggest line in all three bands.

Room rates peak in July and August and around Tet, the lunar new year, and the same room costs noticeably less in shoulder months. Month and coast also decide the weather, which our guide to picking a coast by wedding month covers. Book the few pool villas first, since they run out before ordinary hotel rooms do. If the budget forces a choice, put the villa money into Phu Quoc, where the pool is the whole point of the stay, and keep Hanoi to a simple room.

How much do meals and drinks cost for two?

Plan about $30 a day for two eating local food, about $70 with a mix of restaurants and one nice dinner out, and about $140 with hotel dining and wine. Street food and market meals stay cheap, while Western menus often triple the price of a dinner.

Over 14 days that is $420, $980 and $1,960. On a backpacking budget food is the largest line, 39% of one logged trip, but on a honeymoon rooms take over, so one splurge dinner barely moves the total. Imported wine and hotel bar drinks are where the food line grows fastest, and a tab at a resort bar is the line couples forget to count, so set that drink money aside before the trip rather than after. Order local beer or cocktails at beach bars.

How much do flights inside Vietnam cost?

Three domestic flights for two cost about $250 on a lean plan, about $500 with private airport transfers and a car day, and about $900 with private cars throughout. A single domestic leg usually runs $30 to $90 per person, and booking 1 to 3 months ahead helps. Long-haul return tickets commonly cost $800 to $1,500 per person from Europe or North America, which adds $1,600 to $3,000 for two and is best booked 2 to 8 months ahead.

The money risk sits in the connections. Direct flights between Vietnamese cities are limited, some pairs such as Da Nang to Phu Quoc may need a stop in Ho Chi Minh City, and one missed connection burns a prepaid hotel night. Booking the tickets themselves takes an evening on the airline sites. The part I take over is the sequence: hotel nights, transfers and flight times fitted together so nothing is paid twice. Tell me your dates and I will say what fits, message me on Telegram and I will reply with a route that works.

What does an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay cost?

An overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay costs from $105 per person on a 3-star boat to $980 per person at the top tier, so a couple pays from about $210 to nearly $2,000 for one night. In my bands the cruise is about $210 in the lean plan, about $450 in the comfortable plan and about $1,900 in the splurge plan.

The Ha Long Bay cruise comparison lists the tiers and what each includes. For a single night on the water I rate a good cabin above the top tier’s extras, because the cabin is where you sleep and spend the evening. Keep a little cash for onboard extras, since drinks and excursions are often charged separately from the cabin.

What do day tours, tickets and classes add?

I budget $90 beyond the cruise in the lean band, $250 in the comfortable band and $700 in the splurge band, where private guides drive the figure. A single paid activity for two, such as a cable car day at Ba Na Hills, a cooking class or a lantern workshop in Hoi An, costs tens of dollars per person.

Hoi An and Da Nang are part of our 12-day route through Sapa, Ha Long and Hoi An , if you would like to see how a longer north-and-central trip is paced.

Do you need to budget for a visa?

Many passports need an e‑visa, which costs $25 per person for a single entry on the official portal evisa.gov.vn , so two travelers pay twice that. Some nationalities are exempt for stays of up to 45 days, so check the portal for your passport before paying.

Travel insurance sits outside these figures, so add it as a separate line, since it covers medical bills and cancelled flights.

Where can you save money without spoiling the trip?

Timing and room choice cut the most. Shifting the trip out of the peak months lowers the hotel line, while a 14-night trip needs the same number of nights in any month. Try Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday departures, which are often cheaper, and keep the splurge nights for the last stop.

Staying 4 or 5 nights in one place instead of 1 or 2 saves a domestic flight and a transfer, which is why I give Hoi An and Phu Quoc five nights each. Our own tours follow the same logic of hotel class and pace first, and the programs on the home page show how it looks in practice.

Which budget band should you pick?

Pick the lean band for simple rooms and your own pace, the comfortable band for a pool, a cruise cabin and one proper dinner a week, and the splurge band for private villas and guides. A sensible way to build it is to plan the comfortable version first and upgrade only the last stop. The Phu Quoc end is covered in our Phu Quoc or Dalat honeymoon guide .

BandHotelsFoodTransportActivitiesVisaTotal
Lean$490$420$250$300$50$1,510
Comfortable$1,260$980$500$700$50$3,490
Splurge$3,500$1,960$900$2,600$50$9,010

All figures are US dollars for two people over 14 nights, excluding international flights and insurance. Check current prices before you book.

The table gets you most of the way, and you can total it with your own hotel picks in an evening. The slow part is matching five hotels and three flights to your dates, because one wrong gap costs a night. If you send me your dates and the band you like, I will price the route city by city.

Frequently asked questions

Is a honeymoon package cheaper than building the trip yourself?

A package bundles hotels, transfers and a cruise under one price, which saves planning time but not always money. Compare it line by line with the table above, and check what is included, because airport transfers, cruise drinks and entry tickets are often listed as extras.

Can we pay by card, or do we need cash?

Hotels, resorts and cruise operators usually take cards, while markets, street food and small taxis want cash in dong. ATMs cap each withdrawal, so carry two bank cards and withdraw a few days of spending at a time.

What does travel insurance for a Vietnam honeymoon cover?

A standard policy covers medical bills, cancelled or delayed flights and lost bags, which matters most on a trip with three internal flights. Check that it includes scooter or boat activities if you plan them, since many policies exclude them.
