Direct flights to Vietnam are still on sale from at least a dozen Russian cities for winter 2026-27, but one carrier has pulled out of Nha Trang. Travel agents began receiving tour cancellation notices on the evening of 5 October 2026, and Vestnik ATOR reported on 6 October that AZUR air will not operate its winter Nha Trang charters from seven cities. If you would rather not rebuild the trip alone, there is an easy way to hand it over.
I have lived in Vietnam and run tours since 2023, so I read this kind of announcement from the arrival side: what happens to hotels and transfers when a flight disappears. This guide covers what still flies, how a refund works and how to connect through a hub.
Which flights to Vietnam from Russian regions still run this winter?
Anex keeps Vietjet Air charters to Nha Trang from 12 cities this winter: Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Kazan, Ufa, Krasnoyarsk, Novokuznetsk, Barnaul, Blagoveshchensk, Khabarovsk and Vladivostok. Anex says Vietnam programs will definitely go ahead. That is an operator comment and not a published Vietjet timetable, so I would not pay for a Vietjet date until the airline’s own schedule shows it.

Phu Quoc has direct flights from 9 to 13 cities depending on the operator, according to ATOR’s September overview, and the Fun&Sun list may change after the AZUR air cuts. Aeroflot starts Moscow to Phu Quoc on 15 October 2026 and flies it three times a week from 25 October, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. ATOR puts a round trip from about 90,500 ₽. Aeroflot also serves Nha Trang from Irkutsk, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Vladivostok, and the frequency is worth confirming with the carrier.
For a departure from Vladivostok see the Phu Quoc charter guide , and for Novosibirsk the flights and costs breakdown .
What happened to the AZUR air flights to Nha Trang?
AZUR air, which flies for tour operator Fun&Sun, will not operate winter 2026-27 charters to Nha Trang (Cam Ranh airport) from Moscow, Omsk, Perm, Samara, Chelyabinsk, Mineralnye Vody and Tyumen, according to ATOR. A fully paid Mineralnye Vody to Nha Trang tour for February 2027 has already been cancelled, and so has a Samara tour for New Year.

Sources disagree on Moscow. ATOR and TourDom list it among the cancelled routes, while the Profi Travel outlet says tours from the capital are still on sale. Fun&Sun has promised a final program soon, so treat any city list as provisional until it appears.
If you want a route that survives a cancelled leg, my ready-made routes can be fitted around whichever flight you still have.
What are the layover options without a direct flight?
The quickest option is a through ticket via Moscow on Aeroflot or Vietnam Airlines, and the backup is a hub in Istanbul, Dubai or Bangkok. Journeys of 14 to 18 hours are a rough guide, so check fares for your exact dates.
Aeroflot flies Moscow to Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam Airlines flies Moscow to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, roughly 9 and 10.5 hours in the air, which makes a Moscow hop the shortest way in for anyone who can reach the capital. Lowest advertised fares from Vietnam Airlines out of Moscow on 7 October 2026, round trip in economy: Nha Trang from 61,322 ₽, Hanoi from 68,871 ₽ and Ho Chi Minh City from 73,382 ₽.
This is where a do-it-yourself route usually breaks. Two separate tickets without through check-in mean the second carrier owes you nothing if the first flight is late, an overnight connection leaves you without a hotel or cash, and a hotel booking does not always go through on a Russian bank card. You can handle all of it alone if you enjoy comparing timetables. I take on the whole chain of flight, hotel and transfer, so a cancelled leg does not sink the rest. Message me on Telegram and I will check which flights and connections exist for your dates.
How do you get a refund if a flight to Vietnam is cancelled?
A cancellation entitles you to a full refund. Since 1 March 2026 a flight cancelled or delayed by more than 30 minutes counts as an involuntary refusal of carriage under paragraph 227 of the federal aviation rules (FAP-82, Transport Ministry order No. 341 of 15 October 2025). Article 108 of the Russian Air Code returns the full fare even on a non-refundable ticket.
Step-by-step:
- Get written or messaged confirmation of the cancellation from the carrier’s representative at the airport.
- Choose between a refund and rebooking. For a package tour the operator usually offers a replacement carrier, another destination, a departure from another city or a full refund.
- File your claim with the tour operator if the flight was part of a package, and with the airline if you bought the ticket separately.
- Keep the contract, the voucher and all correspondence, because refunds and losses are calculated from them.
- Refuse a replacement that does not suit you: the law gives you the full refund.
If the flight is delayed instead, FAP-82 requires drinks and two calls after 2 hours, a hot meal after 4 hours and a hotel with transfer after 8 hours by day or 6 hours at night. For exact deadlines rely on the text of FAP-82, because press sources differ on the tolerances.
How do you avoid losing money on hotels and transfers?
Book a non-refundable hotel only after the flight is confirmed. A tour operator refunds the tour it sold you, but a hotel you booked separately stays your own risk. Choose a rate with free cancellation up to check-in, even if it costs a little more.

ATOR gives price benchmarks for Phu Quoc from Moscow: from 210,000 ₽ for two in November for 7 nights in a 3-star hotel, from about 400,000 ₽ over New Year, and an acute hotel shortage on the island in winter. With rooms that scarce, a hotel that falls through is a harder loss to repair than a flight that gets rebooked.
Which route should you pick this winter?
A direct Vietjet or Aeroflot flight wins on time if your city is among the Vietjet and Aeroflot departure cities. Aeroflot’s fixed Phu Quoc weekdays make hotels and transfers easiest to plan. From a city without a direct flight, a connection via Moscow or a hub is the fallback, with the risk of a missed link and a night in the terminal.

You can book the flight from your region yourself: the Aeroflot and Vietjet schedules are open, and a refund for a cancelled flight follows the law. If you do not want to juggle connections and booking deadlines, send me your dates and departure city and I will sketch options for your situation.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to buy a Nha Trang tour right now?
Fun&Sun promises to publish its final program soon, and Anex says Vietnam programs will definitely run. Fun&Sun’s Mineralnye Vody to Nha Trang tours stay on sale only for departures up to 15 October. Until the program is out, pick a booking with free cancellation.
Why did AZUR air drop the Nha Trang flights?
The airline confirmed it is redirecting its fleet to other destinations, with aircraft moving to Phuket. Intourist calls it a thinning of regional flights with low load factors. I found no official AZUR air statement on the cancellation, so for now the news rests on trade press.
Do Russians need a visa for Vietnam in winter 2026-27?
No, for stays up to 45 days: the visa exemption for Russians runs from 15 March 2025 to 14 March 2028, and the passport must be valid for at least 6 months. For a longer trip, apply for an e‑visa in advance at evisa.gov.vn .
How much time should I leave for a connection on separate tickets?
As a rough guide, 3 hours when changing terminals and 4 to 6 hours when changing airports, allowing for baggage and a second check-in. A through ticket is safer because the carrier rebooks you free of charge if you miss the link.
Can I claim damages on top of the ticket refund?
Yes, the consumer protection law lets you claim losses and compensation for non-material damage. If the carrier refuses, complain to Rospotrebnadzor or the transport prosecutor. Check the claim deadline for international flights separately, because six months has been named only for domestic ones.
What am I owed during a delay if I travel with a child?
Under FAP-82, children under 7 get a mother-and-child room regardless of how long the delay lasts. Other services follow the general thresholds, and you can request them from the carrier’s representative at the airport.
