If you plan a Vietnam route yourself and book the hotels separately, the organization still costs money. It arrives as five separate bills: flights with baggage, a car with a driver, intercity transfers, entry tickets and a licensed guide. A full day with a car costs $45 to $90 for a sedan and $60 to $130 for an SUV or minivan, priced per vehicle, and a long intercity transfer reaches $150.
I have lived in Da Nang since 2023 and run routes across the country. The numbers here come from Vietnamese operator price lists and official airline pages checked in 2026. A figure confirmed by only one source is marked as a rough guide.
What does it cost to organize a Vietnam route without hotels?
Organizing a route without hotels costs the sum of five independent lines, and each one scales with something different: days for the car and the guide, cities for the transfers, travelers for tickets and flights. No single market price exists for the whole package. Each line you do yourself removes a bill from the budget, and each line you hand to a contractor adds one.
Are cheap domestic flights still cheap once baggage is added?
A promo fare of $10 to $30 on Vietjet stops being cheap once you add a checked bag, because the Eco fare covers only a 7 kg carry-on together with a personal item, as the Vietjet fare rules state. Regular Vietjet fares run $40 to $80 one way, but those figures come from aggregators, so check them on the airline site on the day you buy.
Vietnam Airlines includes one 23 kg checked bag on Economy Lite and Standard fares and none on Super Lite, per its official baggage page . Bamboo Airways effectively wound down flights in August 2026, so leave it out of any budget.
How do you pay when a Russian card does not work in Vietnam?
Russian-issued Visa and Mastercard cards do not work outside Russia, Mir is accepted by a handful of ATMs and nowhere at the till, and UnionPay from Russian banks is unstable. Booking a car, a ticket or a tour on a foreign platform therefore often fails at the very last step, the card form. Three routes work: a foreign-issued Visa or Mastercard, cash in dong, or a VietQR payment, which means scanning a QR code in a bank app.

You can handle this part yourself with a foreign card and a stack of cash. If you would rather not set that up and you already have a place to stay in the Da Nang area, I book and pay for 3 and 5 day excursions from Da Nang myself. Send me your dates and group size on Telegram and I will tell you what fits.
What does a car with a driver include?
A full day with a private car in one city costs $45 to $90 for a sedan and $60 to $130 for an SUV or seven-seater, and that covers the driver, fuel, tolls and parking. The driver’s lunch, entry tickets and a guide are extra, and the driver gives no commentary at the sites: he only drives.

Past roughly 8 hours or 100 km, operators add about 10,000 dong per km and about 100,000 dong per hour, which is around $0.40 per km and $4 per hour. The price does not depend on the number of passengers: a minivan at $60 to $130 for a family of four works out to $15 to $33 a head, while a $45 to $90 sedan for two costs $23 to $45 a head.
How much do transfers between cities cost?
Intercity transfers by private car cost $10 to $25 on the short Da Nang to Hoi An leg and $50 to $150 on the long ones such as Da Nang to Hue or Hanoi to Ha Long. The price is per car. On the Da Nang to Hoi An run, a night ride between 22:00 and 05:00 adds $5 to $11.

| Leg | Sedan, per car | Minivan or larger, rough guide |
|---|---|---|
| Da Nang to Hoi An | $10 to $12 | $13 to $25 |
| Da Nang to Hue via Hai Van Pass | $50 to $65 | $60 to $99 |
| Hanoi to Ninh Binh, 1.5 to 2.5 hours | $60 | $120 |
| Hanoi to Ha Long, 2.5 to 3 hours | $65 | $70 to $150 |
Prices on the longer legs are rough guides: the operator confirms the exact sum for your date.
What do entry tickets to the main sights cost?
A foreign adult pays about $39 (970,000 dong) for Ba Na Hills, about $8 (200,000 dong) for the Hue Imperial City and about $6 (150,000 dong) for My Son. The dollar amounts assume about 25,000 dong per $1, and the rate on the payment day will differ. Ha Long Bay tickets are quoted at about $10 to $13 (250,000 to 330,000 dong), and the operator has to confirm the current price.

Ba Na Hills charges visitors more than residents of Da Nang, who pay about $25 (630,000 dong).
How much does a licensed guide cost, and what does the license change?
A licensed English-speaking guide runs about $50 to $100 a day in my price breakdown (a rough guide), and the rates for Da Nang and Hoi An, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City sit in my separate piece on private tour guide costs in Vietnam .
Vietnam’s 2017 Law on Tourism (09/2017/QH14) defines three guide types: domestic, international and on-site. A guide needs a card, and foreigners are led by a guide with an international card. Before the trip, ask for the card number and the name of the company the guide works under. Without a card and a company behind the guide, you have no one to turn to if something goes wrong.
What should you choose to do yourself, and what to hand over?
Hand over the lines where a licensed contractor matters: the car day, the long transfers and the licensed guide, for example to an operator such as Vietnam Samurai Tour . Keep the lines that are cheap to do alone, such as buying your own tickets on site. Decide which lines you book yourself and which you hand over, and the budget is the sum of the lines left on your side.
Example: three days around Da Nang in a sedan without a guide. The car costs $135 to $270 for the three days, tickets to Ba Na Hills and Hue come to about $47 per person, and a Da Nang to Hue transfer adds $50 to $65 one way. A guide and flights come on top.
| Cost line | Rough guide | Not included |
|---|---|---|
| Car for a day | $45 to $130 per car | driver’s lunch, tickets, guide |
| Intercity transfer | $10 to $150 per car | stops beyond the wait time |
| Entry tickets | $6 to $39 per adult | lunch, guide |
| Domestic flight | $10 to $80 per leg | checked bag on cheap fares |
| Guide | $50 to $100 per day | tips, tickets, transport |
Once you have your cities and days, message me on Telegram with the list: I will check where your budget is inflated and tell you how many days I need to arrange it.
Frequently asked questions
Is a one-way Hanoi to Ninh Binh transfer or a full-day car with waiting cheaper?
One-way costs $60 to $120, while a full-day car that waits for you costs $90 to $150. If you return the same evening, the waiting car is often the better deal than two separate transfers.
Is lunch included in the Ba Na Hills ticket?
No. The 970,000 dong ticket (about $39) covers entry and the cable car without food. A version with the lunch buffet costs 1,230,000 to 1,300,000 dong, about $49 to $52.
Do children pay full price at Hue and My Son?
No. At Hue, children aged 7 to 12 pay 40,000 dong and under 7 enter free. At My Son, a foreign child aged 5 to 15 pays 50,000 dong against 150,000 dong for an adult.
Is there a combined ticket for Hue's royal tombs?
Yes. A two-day combo covering the Imperial City and three tombs (Minh Mang, Tu Duc, Khai Dinh) costs 530,000 dong, against 200,000 dong for the citadel alone.
